Overlook: fail to notice

Originally written in November 3rd, 2021

Do you know that overlooking certain things might not be wrong? But when it comes to the things that are essential for our existence or sustain our planet, such as the air we breathe or the greenhouse gases, we can’t afford to get it wrong.

Our exposure to environmental factors like air pollution contributes more to diseases than genetics do (70:30).

Climate change is on our neck, individuals all over the world are raising their voices in solidarity in the fight for climate change.

According to Bill Gates in his new book “How to Avoid a Climate Disaster” There are two numbers you need to know about climate change. The first is 51 billion. The other is zero. Fifty-one billion is how many tons of greenhouse gases the world typically adds to the atmosphere every year. Zero is what we need to aim for. To stop the warming and avoid the worst effects of climate change.

According to Elon Musk’s Tesla, the company is accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy with electric cars, solar and integrated renewable energy solutions.

Although all of these innovations sound interesting and liberating,

we fail to notice that emissions are still ongoing.

While some are preparing for a transition to electric cars, a lot of nations across the world still use ageing cars that are using petrol and emit dangerous fumes, exposing individuals to high levels of air pollution. While we are busy constructing and installing solar panels, some communities and countries of the world are burning fuel consistently to generate power for their businesses.

In Nigeria, where a lot of illegal refining of crude oil is carried out, the Government wants to legalise Artisinal Refining because they believe it will make petroleum products available and affordable when Nigeria as a developing country is supposed to be able to develop its economy with a little impact to the environment and human health.

According to Al Gore “Pollution should never be the price of prosperity”

As of the time of writing, COP26, the 2021 United Nations climate change conference is ongoing and so many leaders of the world are present including African leaders and the President of Nigeria, His Excellency, President M. Buhari. A lot of dialogues will be made, a lot of pledges will also be made but one thing stands out, all these efforts might stagger if,

we again fail to notice who or what is taking us backward, which communities or cities are hot spots, which nations or regions are risk areas, and what we can expect in the future.

Because,

emission anywhere means warming everywhere

Among the pledges we look forward to, funding pledges is likely to be at the forefront to push climate technologies and renewable. But how do we ensure equal distribution of these opportunities? How do we ensure we are creating the right policies? How do we make sure we are not over-fitting a particular area while other areas remain under-fitted? In that way,

we may fail to notice a weakness in our shield

We are working on solving the OVERLOOKED with DATA and INTELLIGENCE. Tracking, monitoring and measuring local air quality data is the first step to solving air pollution. We believe that with the right data, the right decisions can be made, the right policies can be implemented and everyone can enjoy an equal advantage in living their best life. We make our findings (including forecast, risk areas, hot spots) accessible through an easy-to-use dashboard made available to Government, Communities, Enterprises, Developers, and Researchers to accelerate climate action and the transition to net-zero. Our goal is to unite citizens, municipalities, and organizations in the defense of air pollution by building intelligent sensor devices that make it easy for anyone to collect, store and utilize air quality data. We use the data collected to generate awareness and promote impact in the environment.

Some of the important features in the device include solar panel, gsm network and internal storage.

We are very much concerned about the various processes we use, that is why our devices will be intelligent and powered at the Edge. Analytics and Machine Learning at the edge can enable us to create more environmentally-friendly applications.

Find out more about them and how they can contribute to climate change in our next publications. Subscribe to our newsletter and be the first to know when we publish!

Cheers, and let’s keep fighting for a better world!!!
